New Forest District Council: Council urges New Forest residents to update their voter details online
Residents of the New Forest are being reminded to update their voter details so they can have a voice on decisions that affect them. New Forest District Council (NFDC) is writing to all households to update the electoral register and is asking residents to update their details online where possible.
Only those on the electoral register are able to vote in elections. With Police and Crime Commissioner Elections and County Council Elections taking place across Hampshire next year, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can take part.
Rebecca Drummond; Service Manager for Elections at New Forest District Council said:
“We have to update the electoral register every year, by law. Please look out for your letter coming soon and follow the instructions to update your voter registration. This year, more than ever, it’s important that you respond to us online where possible, so that we can limit personal contact and help keep everyone safe.
“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear in the letter we send to you. The easiest way to register to vote is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post.”
10,000 New Forest households have already updated their details in response to emails from the council’s electoral registration team. Now NFDC is sending a letter to all the remaining households in the district to check their information. People who have moved recently are particularly encouraged to look out for the voter registration messages from NFDC and check the details.
