Hampshire County Council is seeking the views of residents about 20 mph limits within Hampshire.

Hampshire County Council is seeking the views of residents about 20 mph limits within Hampshire.

The County Council is keen to hear from as many residents, businesses and other stakeholders as possible, to find out their views on the implementation of 20mph limits in the context of other highways priorities and the County Council’s statutory duties to maintain the highway in a safe condition within a limited budget.

The findings from the survey, together with data about use of the highway, speed enforcement, road safety and environmental impacts will be important in helping to shape future policy relating to 20mph speed limits in Hampshire and, in turn, future decision-making around 20mph speed limits.

The survey is available at: https://www.hants.gov.uk/transport/transportschemes/20mph-speed-limits-consultation and should take just 15 minutes to complete.

It is open until midnight on Monday 12 September 2022.

£150 Council Tax Rebate payments start

£150 Council Tax rebate payments start

New Forest District Council has started (Monday 25 April 2022) making payments of the £150 Energy Rebate to eligible households who have paid their April Council Tax instalment by Direct Debit.

Residents who have paid their April instalment by Direct Debit do not need to take any action and should receive the rebate in their bank account by the end of April.

The government announced the £150 rebate as support for the rising cost of energy bills, with local authorities paying the rebate to eligible households.

For people who don’t pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit and where we are unable to make the direct payment we will send a letter by the end of April, and invite them to make a claim to receive the payment into their bank account.

NFDC are warning residents to be aware of scammers calling people and asking for their bank details in order to receive the Council Tax Energy Rebate.  NFDC say they would never cold call and ask for bank details over the phone or send a text, and for anyone who is worried, to hang up and contact their bank and report the scam to the police on 101 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040  www.actionfraud.police.uk/how-to-report-fraud

Letter from PCC re Government consultation to reduce fly-tipping

Letter from PCC re Government consultation to reduce fly-tipping

Dear colleagues,
Re: New plans to stop households paying for DIY waste to reduce fly-tipping – have your say
I am writing to inform you of the latest Government plans to reduce fly tipping and to urge you to complete the consultation on banning charging of household building waste materials at council tips, in a bid to prevent fly-tipping.
The Government is consulting on plans to change the rules that currently allow some Local Authorities to charge for DIY waste from households. Under the proposals, households would not be charged to get rid of waste including plasterboards, bricks and bath units.
This is a new move to tackle fly-tipping which is a crime, blights communities, poses a risk to public health and the environment, and costs up to £392 million a year.
The consultation can be completed online at: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/household-waste-recycling-centres-diy-waste-disposal-charges-and-booking-systems
I support this change in government position. The cost of fly-tipping clear-ups to private landowners and councils is a huge amount of money and the issue is increasing every year. These are criminal acts. By removing the barriers to lawful free disposals at council waste centres, the criminality will be reduced. This is a sound move.
Yours sincerely
Donna Jones Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire & Isle of Wight

New Forest District Council plans to help residents reduce their waste and recycle more

New Forest District Council plans to help residents reduce their waste and recycle more.

Changes to how household waste is collected in the New Forest will be decided this summer, subject to anticipated government legislation.

If approved at a council meeting in July, New Forest District Council’s (NFDC) waste strategy would see the introduction of wheelie bins as a key part of reducing how much waste is thrown away and increasing how much is recycled.

The proposals would mean, from 2024, households will be able to recycle food waste, a wider range of plastics, and have more frequent glass collections.
