Garden waste collection suspended as council face staff shortages

Garden Waste Collections

New Forest District Council (NFDC) will suspend their garden waste collection service from next week (Monday 19 July) for a minimum of 4 weeks amid severe staff shortages.

NFDC has experienced staff shortages across the whole waste and recycling service recently and despite some vacancies being filled, there is now not enough staff to carry out all the services provided.

Farmers, commoners and landowners in the New Forest National Park are being encouraged to apply for funding to help them adapt for the future and make their businesses more resilient.

Farming in Protected Landscapes, a new national grant programme launched today, will also help farmers improve the natural environment, cultural heritage and public access on their land.

As a Forestry England Keeper here in the New Forest, I probably have one of the best “offices” there is. A key part of my job is to help monitor and look after the Forest’s wildlife. At this time of year, we are particularly focused on ground-nesting birds, species which as the name suggests take the rather precarious approach of building their nests and rearing their young on the ground.
